I would love to speak to you about an event that is being put on at Glasgow’s Tramway for the centenary of INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY ( march 8th). We need your advice and if you are willing your participation in the knitting of a giant knitted.. thing (blanket or scarf) consisting of 100,000,000 stitches to represent the 100,000,000 women missing from the world’s demography today. We are roughly estimating that if the scarf is 10cm wide, it will be in the region of 20km long, or a square would be roughly 50 meters x 50 meters. We need to get clacking!!
Our idea is to ask people, knitting groups, individuals near and far to knit a square to contribute to the outrageous giant knitted thing, and for it to be a backdrop to a day of events from story tellers, visual artists, dancers, musicians, drama groups, etc. The event is intended to inspire, provoke, and celebrate.
We’d love to meet your group and share our idea, to motivate some knitting madness for a great cause.
Our contact details are:
Ruth Janssen 07983400227
Judith Williams 07738355654
Look forward to hearing from you soon, or even better maybe we could meet. We’ll be working from the tramway for the next couple of weeks, but we can also come to you.
